POLICE have named a murder victim who was found lying in a road in Basingstoke.

Dean Anthony Evans was found lying in Benham Road, Popley at 5.30am yesterday morning, suffering with serious injuries.

The 31-year-old, from Kempshott, Basingstoke was taken to hospital by ambulance but died a short while later. 

Officers had been called to an address in Benham Road to reports of an assault.

Floral tributes to Mr Evans have been left at the scene.

One read: "I will always remember the times we shared. You will never be forgotten."

Police have since arrested three people.

A 20-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested last night on suspicion of murder.

Two other men, both aged 22 and from Basingstoke, are still in custody being questioned by officers.

Detective Inspector Simon Baker said: "Officers will remain in the area throughout the day as we continue our investigations.

"We like to reassure members of the public that there is no risk to the wider community at this stage of our investigation.
