THIEVES attempted to steal two cash machines during a raid at a North Hampshire service station last weekend.

Police are appealing for information after a vehicle was used to drive backwards through a large glass window at Sutton Scotney service station in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, March 13.

The burglary took place at the northbound services on the A34 at around 1.30am.

A blue Isuzu pick up and a grey Volvo estate were used to pull two free-standing cash machines out the building which were later found close to the service station. No money was taken.

Officers investigating the incident are now appealing to motorists who may have seen what happened or the vehicles involved.

They would particularly like to speak to the drivers of a red vehicle and a silver vehicle that were seen leaving the Shell garage just after the incident, as they might hold vital information.

Detective Constable Claire Boakes, from Basingstoke CID, said: “These services offer 24 hour facilities and there were people inside the building at the time of this incident.

“Luckily no physical injuries were caused, however it is imperative we identify those responsible as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information on what happened is asked to contact DC Boakes at Basingstoke CID on 101, quoting 44160101593.
