A MUM and her four-year-old son travelling in a car were pushed from the road by a lorry in a terrifying incident that left the vehicle written off.

Gosia Kwintowska and her son Mateusz Kwintowski were returning from shopping at Tesco in Chineham when their car was pushed off the road into a verge on the A339 ring road to the slip road towards the town centre.

The lorry driver got out to see if they were okay, but then drove off without providing any details.

Gosia’s husband Karol Kwintowski said the incident, at 11.45am on October 27, left his wife in shock, adding: “It hit the left side of the car and the car ended up at the bottom of the carriage on the grass at the side of the road.

“It’s hard for me to understand what he was doing. Maybe because he was sitting very high, maybe he didn’t see her. He was on the roundabout in the left, he shouldn’t have tried to turn right.”

Referring to his 27-year-old wife, who does not speak English, he said: “She was scared and in shock. He came and asked if she was alright. But as soon as he realised that she couldn’t speak English he decided to drive away. My wife doesn’t even remember the colour of the lorry and no one else pulled over.”

The grey Skoda Superb, 2009 reg, which is worth between £7,500 and £10,000, is expected to be written off as a result of the crash.

Mr Kwintowski hopes that witnesses to the crash, who may remember details about the lorry involved, will come forward.

The 28-year-old, from Buckskin, who is a bus driver, said: “I wouldn’t do such a thing like drive away from the crash. The child was crying and was in shock and she couldn’t call me because I was driving the bus.”

He said there are now problems claiming insurance because of the lack of information about the incident, and because the lorry driver did not provide his details.

Gosia and Karol share the car, and Gosia relies on it to get to work stacking shelves at Tesco.

Mr Kwintowski said: “We will have to use bike or foot.”
