A BASINGSTOKE man said he felt “completely betrayed” after being conned out of £19,000.

In a statement read at Winchester Crown Court, at the sentencing of Jeremy Willmott, victim Colin Walker said: “I now feel that I can trust no one.”

The 64-year-old, of Skyline Plaza, who has poor mobility, trusted Willmott with his bank details to buy groceries.

But Willmott, formerly of Stag Hill, used the money for hotels and restaurants to impress a woman who the judge said he was “obsessed with”.

Willmott had already changed his plea to guilty and was given concurrent suspended sentences of 18 months and 18 months and 21 months, with a 7pm-7am curfew with e-tag.

The judge said he would have been jailed if it were not for his health problems, including an amputated toe.
