THIS is the man that detectives are keen to speak to over an assault in Basingstoke town centre.

A 25-year-old man was left with a serious jaw injury after the attack in Wote Street, at The Top of The Town, between 4am and 4.30am on Friday, July 3.

The victim was walking with two friends when one of them became involved in an argument with another man, police said.

The victim tried to intervene and was punched to the head by a man described as black, aged in his 20s and wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Hampshire Constabulary have now issued a CCTV still of the man they would like to speak to about the assault.

Detective Darrin Carey, from the Northern Investigation Team, said: “The victim has been left seriously injured following an unprovoked attack.

“Although the CCTV does not clearly show the offender, it is hoped someone may recognise him and I am appealing for any information which may assist in identifying him.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Carey on 101, quoting 44150111848, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
