ROBBERS attacked a man from behind near a Basingstoke supermarket before taking a phone from his pocket.

The attack took place on a set of stairs between Morrisons supermarket and Deep Lane, between 5am and 5.30am on Saturday, July 4.

Police said the 44-year-old victim was walking down the stairs when he felt a blow to his head that caused him to fall over.

The offenders, two men, then removed his Blackberry mobile phone from his pocket before running off in the direction of George Street.

The attackers were described as white, of slim build, about 5ft 7ins tall and in their 20s.

Detective Constable Jonathan Duggan, from the Northern Investigation Team, said he would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who had been offered a mobile phone for sale recently.
