A MAN has been detained under the Mental Health Act after police were called to an address in Popley yesterday.
Hampshire Constabulary were called to Shakespeare Road at 12.44pm, where officers negotiated with a “vulnerable” man inside the property until around 6.30pm.
The man left the address and was detained safely by police under the Mental Health Act.
A section of Shakespeare Road was closed while police dealt with the incident.
Police have told The Gazette that the incident was not a hostage situation as has been speculated on social media.
A spokesman confirmed that no-one was injured and there is no wider risk to the community, adding: “Police would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding.”
