THE young man who died in a collision with a taxi on New Year’s Day has been named as Kaliam Fearon.
The 19-year-old, from Basingstoke, was walking along the A30 Winchester Road, near Down Grange Farm, at around 12.30am, when he was in collision with a Skoda Octavia taxi.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Basingstoke hospital, where doctors pronounced his death.
The taxi driver, a man aged in his 30s from Basingstoke, was shaken but not seriously injured in the crash.
Police released his name after formal identification and a post-mortem took place today.
Flowers and tributes to Kaliam have been left at the side of Winchester Road since his death.
Officers are continuing to appeal for information on the crash, which led to the closure of Winchester Road until around 5am on New Year’s Day.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Eastleigh police station on 101, quoting Operation Cyane.
