AN ATTACK in an alleyway in Basingstoke left a man with a “significant injury” to his ear, police said.

The assaults on a 19-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman took place between 4am and 4.20am on Sunday, December 21, in the alleyway to the side of Rhu Bar, in London Street.

Police said the 19-year-old need hospital treatment for his ear injury, while the 33-year-old woman suffered bruising.

Detective Constable Simon Quickfall, from Basingstoke CID, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed people being assaulted in the alleyway to the side of Rhu Bar on London Street on Sunday morning at about 4.15am.

“A man and woman were assaulted by a group of possibly three to four men resulting in them being injured.

“We are particularly keen to hear from a group of people that we believe caught a taxi from this alleyway at the time and may have seen or heard the victims and suspects just prior to the assault taking place.”

Police said at first that a fight had taken place in the alleyway. They have since amended their press release to say the two victims were assaulted.
