INQUESTS have been opened and adjourned into the deaths of two people who died in separate car crashes in Hart.

Gordon Phillips, 69, from Alton, suffered severe head injuries when he was struck by two cars as he walked across Dunleys Hill in Odiham last Thursday.

A Toyota Yaris was involved in the first collision, before Mr Phillips was struck by a Nissan Navara travelling in the opposite carriageway.

He suffered severe head injuries, and was taken to Basingstoke hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Yaris, a 52-year-old woman from Bramley, and the driver of the Navara, a 47-year-old man from Fleet, gave accounts of the incident to the police.

No arrests were made.

Rebecca Ward, 24, from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, died when her car came off Bracknell Lane in Hartley Wintney and hit a tree.

She is said to have died from multiple injuries, and was pronounced dead at Basingstoke hospital.

Police officers closed the road after the crash, which took place at around 6am on Sunday.

Both inquest were opened and adjourned earlier this week and will resume at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 11 next year.
