TWO teenagers, arrested on suspicion of murdering Basingstoke man Jay Benton, will not face further action.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the 18-year-old was found at a house in Frescade Crescent, Kings Furlong, Basingstoke, in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 2.

Mr Benton, of Berkeley Drive, Brighton Hill, suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken to Basingstoke hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem, carried out by a Home Office pathologist, did not find any injuries on Mr Benton’s body.

A 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, arrested at the time on suspicion of murder, have now been informed their bail has been cancelled and that no further action will be taken.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary read: “Officers who were investigating the death of 18-year-old Jay Anthony Benton from Basingstoke have concluded that there were no criminal offences which led to his death.

“A 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy who were questioned by officers as part of their investigation have been informed that their bail has now been cancelled and that no further action will be taken.”

An inquest into Mr Benton’s death will take place at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 22.
