A MAN is appealing for witnesses after he returned from an anniversary meal with his wife to find his pick-up truck was damaged.

Alan Penfold said £2,500 of damage was caused to his silver Ford Ranger vehicle when he left it in the Brinkletts car park, in Winchester Road, on Saturday, September 20.

He found a large dent in the driver’s side of the pick-up’s cab and the damage extended to that side’s rear wheel arch.

The 57-year-old salesman travelled to Basingstoke from his home in Alton, arriving in the town around 3.30pm. The couple left the vehicle for about three hours while they had a meal in Giraffe in Festival Place.

He said: “I reversed into a bay, which backs on to the London Clancy building, and I was very careful when I parked it because my pick-up truck is long. We came back to find there was extensive damage.”

Mr Penfold said he went to Basingstoke police station to report the matter, but has since received a letter to say they will not follow it up, unless a witness comes forward.

He added he had contacted businesses in buildings near to the car park, and only one, SSE, had a CCTV camera pointing towards the car park, but its footage was unclear.

Mr Penfold asked anyone with information to contact Basingstoke police station on 101.
