TWO teenagers arrested over the death of a Basingstoke man have been released on bail.
The 14-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday after an 18-year-old man, named locally as Jay Benton, died following an incident in a house in Kings Furlong.
Police were called to the house in Frescade Crescent at 2.30pm on Wednesday by paramedics, who were responding to an emergency call about a man with head injuries.
The man, said to be in cardiac arrest when officers arrived, was taken to Basingstoke hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination by a Home Office pathologist has been carried out, but a cause of death has not been determined.
The teenagers have been bailed until October 29.
Detective Inspector Ben Chivers, of Basingstoke CID, said: "At this time, the cause of death remains unknown and therefore, while we continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, we are treating the death as suspicious.
"The man who died and the two people who were arrested were known to one another and there is no wider risk to members of the public."
He said officers had conducted house-to-house enquiries and thanked the public for their assistance and understanding.
Anyone with information can contact Basingstoke CID on 101, quoting Operation Plate, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
