A BASINGSTOKE man has spoken of his horror at waking up to find two burglars in his house, who launched a vicious attack on him.

Dave Ratcliff heard a noise downstairs in his Buckskin home at 4.15am on May 27, and went to investigate.

He said: “I noticed my back door wide open. I wandered through to my kitchen to close it when a man appeared from hidden behind a wall and hit me on the head with an object. I stumbled backwards and was hit for a second time.”

Mr Ratcliff, who was at home alone, then saw a second man run through the door.

He said: “He hit me again causing me to fall into a unit and pull it down on top of me on the floor. Both men then proceeded to stamp on my face, head, back and ribs.”

The attack has left Mr Ratcliff with serious injuries to his ribs and face.

PC Mike Ahearne, from Basingstoke police station, said the burglars entered through an insecure door.

He added: “This was a burglary where the resident was subjected to an unprovoked attack. I would appeal for anyone who has any information which might help to identify the offenders to call 101.”
