TWO men threatened a shop worker with a knife before running away empty-handed.

The attempted robbery took place between 10.50pm and 11.05pm on Friday, June 13 at the Tesco Express store, in Oakridge Road, Oakridge.

The men entered the store and threatened a member of staff, whose shouts caused them to flee.

Shortly afterwards, a man ran towards a couple in Priestley Road, Rooksdown, in a threatening way – an incident police think may be linked to the attempted robbery.

Police have now released stills from the shop’s CCTV system.

One of the men was described as of slim build, 5ft 7ins tall and wore a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up, a white t-shirt and a face mask.

Detective Constable Simon Quickfall, of Basingstoke CID, asked for witnesses to come forward, including those who may have seen anyone running from Oakridge Road towards the Aldermaston Road roundabout.

He said: “We have CCTV of the incident and although you cannot see the face of the offender, he is wearing a pair of gloves that you may recognise as belonging to someone you know.

“A witness to this incident left his details with staff at the shop but these details were lost. If this was you please call the police.”

Anyone with information can contact DC Quickfall on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
