ANNUAL council meeting, May 8: We have a new mayor, Councillor George Hood, and a new deputy mayor, Councillor Brian Gurden.
I will continue as a Brighton Hill North councillor.
We were re-elected at the borough council election on May 1.
BRIGHTON Hill Pre-school: On May 9, I visited Julie Voysey at the pre-school, before attending training regarding children's centres.
Manor Field Infant School and Brighton Hill Pre-school are to be involved as outreach branches of children's centres.
When I visited the pre-school, children were drawing and playing with tricycles and bubble cars. Many were in the garden, colouring pictures of a policeman taking children across the road.
Regarding children's centres and the outreach services, the aim is to ensure children are not suffering disadvantage. Problems will be identified, such as hearing difficulties and poor eyesight.
I attended a training session in Alton dealing with children's centres and learned that infants and their parents will be supported so that all children can keep up with others of a similar age.
I respect the thinking behind children's centres. However, the system seems complex and people need to be able to monitor achievements.
CHURCH of Christ the King: Don't forget to visit the spring fair on Saturday, May 31, from noon to 4pm, on the field at the back of the church.
