A YOUNG boy from Basingstoke with an incurable brain tumour is heading for a dream holiday after local people rallied behind a fundraising drive.

The Hope for Jayden campaign has now raised more than £16,000 for the family of four-year-old Jayden Wilson, who was diagnosed with the tumour in September.

The youngster was on hand to start one of the latest fundraising events for the campaign – a 24-hour relay run around Hatch Warren and Beggarwood, where Jayden lives with his parents Mike Wilson and Lou Scandrett.

Organised by Mark and Danielle Butler, founders of Hatch Warren Runners, the event saw 64 people cover a combined total of 460 miles, taking turns to run a 5km route starting and ending at The Portsmouth Arms, in Hatchwarren Lane.

Jayden, who attended with his dad, presented the baton to the first runners on the evening of Friday, October 18.

Nearly 40 runners completed the last leg, many in fancy dress, and the event raised more than £1,000.

Mr Butler said: “Jayden is such a great kid. He is on our doorstep and we wanted to try to do our bit to help him. It was a really good event.”

In another event in aid of Jayden, flashy sports cars, including a Lamborghini and a TVR, were on show at a car cruise, organised by Charlotte Hardy, from Popley, Basingstoke.

About 500 people attended the event, including Jayden and his family, to look at more than 250 cars parked at Basingstoke Leisure Park. The event raised £950.

Jayden’s dad Mike said: “Jayden loved it and he got to sit in the Lamborghini.

“Some of the cars were revving their engines and flames were coming out of the back, which Jayden thought was fun.

“We took the whole family and everyone was so nice to us. Loads of people were coming up to us being very positive and it was just so nice to hear that.”

A further event that raised money for the Hope for Jayden campaign was a coffee morning at Basingstoke Rugby Football Club, in Down Grange.

Mike said that he will soon use the money that has been raised to book a trip to Walt Disney World, in Florida, while Jayden is well enough to travel.
