IT WAS second time lucky for a group of intrepid fundraisers taking on a challenge.

A group of 18 fundraisers managed to abseil down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth in aid of the Ark Cancer Centre Charity on Sunday, after their previous attempt in April was cancelled due to high winds.

Many of the group that took part were from Beaufort Financial, one of the Ark’s Our Partner corporate supporters.

The abseil team also featured members of the Arkriders, who have raised more than £150,000 for Ark, and representatives from other companies that have supported the charity.

The group braved the 100-metre descent, which saw them raise nearly £2,500, with more donations hopefully coming in.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at the Ark, said: “This was an amazing feat by an incredible group of people, abseiling down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower is an awesome achievement.

“Ark is grateful to all 18 of the inspirational abseilers who took part on Sunday, and to everyone who has sponsored them. These fabulous fundraisers have really taken Ark’s £5million appeal to a new height.”
