A MUCH-loved consultant radiologist, who spent decades working at Basingstoke hospital, has passed away.

Dr Graham Plant was a founder member of the British Society of Interventional Radiologists, and a former chairman of the Ark Medical Trust.

The 61-year-old spent years working as a consultant interventional radiologist at the hospital, in Aldermaston Road.

He joined the hospital in 1987, retiring in December 2013. In November last year, he was invited back to open the new state-of-the-art angiography unit.

Mary Edwards, chief executive of the trust which runs Basingstoke hospital, then described Dr Plant as a “long-serving and dedicated expert” in the field of radiology.

She said: “He has been instrumental in the interventional radiology service for the past 25 years.”

In his role as chairman of the Ark Medical Trust, Dr Plant helped to plan and fundraise for The Ark Conference Centre, built within the hospital grounds after a major fundraising campaign.

Among many other things, the centre acts as a base where medical experts from around the world can meet and share knowledge.

A celebration of Dr Plant’s life will take place on Friday, January 30 at The Ark Conference Centre, beginning at 6pm.
