A LOCAL dance school is hosting a charity ball to raise funds for a state-of-the-art centre to treat local cancer sufferers.

Freedom 2 Dance, based in Rooksdown Community Centre, will host the ball on Saturday, October 11, to raise money for The Ark Cancer Centre charity.

The event will be held at Aldworth School, in Western Way, Basingstoke, and will feature plenty of music, a performance by professional ballroom dancers, a licensed bar and an American supper, as well as a special raffle.

Sergio Brilhante, a principal at Freedom 2 Dance, said: “We are delighted to be organising this ball in aid of such a worthwhile charity and hope everyone in the local area will get behind it.

“If dancing is not your thing, please do consider sponsoring the event, or making a contribution to our raffle. The more funds we can raise, the better.”

As previously reported in The Gazette, the charity is working to raise £5million towards a new cancer treatment centre, which will provide radiotherapy and chemotherapy alongside other complementary treatments and facilities.

Vickie Randall, manager of the cancer charity campaign, said “We are delighted to receive support from such a fantastic group. Their dancing is wonderful, and I know the evening will be full of fun and laughter.

“We are very grateful to have such enthusiastic support from our local community and appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes on behind the scenes.

“We need local people to support our project so we can offer a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility for cancer patients now and into the future.”
