LUDGERSHALL Town Council will have to decide whether it can continue using its council chamber for meetings if it does not meet the needs of the disabled as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act.
The council usually holds its meeting on the second Tuesday evening of the month but the July meeting was postponed by two days and the venue changed to the main hall of the Memorial Hall following a request to speak by Mrs Donna Pearce.
Former councillor Mrs Pearce, who has a disability that impairs her mobility, wanted to speak to the council about a barrier at the entrance to the car park, which she believes could exclude disabled people in high vehicles who may wish to visit the nearby toilets for the disabled.
An offer to hear her views in the hall foyer on Tuesday was rejected by Mrs Pearce so the council opted to meet last night (Thursday) in the Memorial Hall which is accessible.
The main hall of the Mem-orial Hall could not be used by the council on Tues-day evening as there is a long-standing booking for bingo.
