A PLAN for 600 new homes in Hook and another 220 in Hartley Wintney are part of a master plan close to being finalised by Hart District Council.

Odiham and North Warnborough are also earmarked for 180 homes in the draft Local Plan, on which the district council is to consult local people before the end of the year.

The final draft covering development to the year 2029, will be published on Monday before the Cabinet debates it on October 25.

Although specific sites have not been identified in all cases, in Hook, land between Griffin Way North and London Road has been picked out to take 500 homes, with the remaining 100 coming from the “rest of Hook”.

Hart Council Leader Councillor Kenneth Crookes, who represents the Odiham ward, said the plan was a satisfactory compromise.

He said: “We have worked it out very carefully and parish councils across the districts are already pretty well aware of what is in it. We have been working to make sure there are no surprises.”

The Odiham and North Warnborough area might be taking more houses than had been built in the last ten years, he admitted, but the Hatchwood Farm proposal for 89 homes, would be included in the figures, if approved.

He said: “The village needs to make sure it is staying vibrant. This is a longer-term plan and not going to happen overnight.”

Cllr Dorothy Harvey, chairman of Hartley Wintney Parish Council, said the council was happy with the figure proposed for the village.

The likely sites for homes are the extension of Dilly Lane St Mary’s Park housing development and land at Causeway and Rifle Range farms.

She said: “We don’t have a choice. The Government has given the district council its allocation, and our job is to make sure it has the least impact and we have the best places for the houses.”

The proposals are part of a plan to build 2,301 houses on new sites in Hart.

Electors will have until January to give their views before the final plan goes before a planning inspector next summer.

He will consider all the comments and the council’s and developers’ views.
