Golf day to help Sebbage family
A CHARITY golf day has been held to help the family of a young man who was stabbed to death in Greece.
Steve Ballard held the golf day at Dummer Golf Club where he and 25 other players raised nearly £700 for the Out of the Blue fund.
Steve is a childhood friend of Andy Sebbage, whose son Robert was killed in Zante last July. Last week Greek taxi driver Stelios Morfis was found guilty of the unintentional manslaughter of 18-year-old Robert but was cleared of murder.
About £150 of the final figure was raised by fining players who broke various rules, and the remainder was raised by auctioning a corporate day out at Reading FC and a voucher donated by Dummer golf course.
Steve, 57, said he was pleased. The call handler for Enterprise Mouchel national call centre said: “It was a really good day. I invited friends, family, former colleagues, people I used to play football with – everyone came together for the golf day.
“I’ve known Andy since we were kids and I know his family well. I know the money is going to a really good cause.”
Out of the Blue was set up by Andy and his wife Rhian to raise funds for costs associated with the trial.
Steve, of Droxford Crescent, Tadley, said the family were still facing a large bill from the costs of their flights and legal assistance.
Morfis was jailed for 11 years and, as reported last week, the Sebbage family expressed their disappointment with the outcome of the trial.
