More families rely on food banks

AN increasing number of families on low income are relying on food banks for support.

The Trussell Trust, which runs food banks in Hampshire and is set to open one in Basingstoke, has reported a “huge increase” in the number of people coming along for basic food provisions.

The trust said the research from Community Action Hampshire shows it is not just those on benefits using the service, but struggling families or people who have lost their jobs. It also found that there is an increase in demand at the start of a school holiday.
