Huge rise in cats needing a home
A LEAP in the number of homeless cats and kittens has prompted cat protectors in Basingstoke to issue an appeal for help.
The Basingstoke and District Branch of Cats Protection is bursting at the seams. As a result, the charity has issued an emergency appeal asking people to make a donation or adopt one of the many cats in the charity’s care to stop the situation getting any worse.
Hilary Wells, branch co-ordinator said: “This surge in unwanted cats is extremely distressing. It is a crisis for the cats, and it piles additional pressure on to our volunteers.
“The Basingstoke and District Branch faces a difficult time each summer but this year was worse than usual as we received fewer inquiries. This leaves us unable to help many more unwanted cats out there.
“We currently have a waiting list of cats needing to be re-homed as all our foster pens are full, so we’re unlikely to be able to take a homeless cat in immediately.
“Therefore, I would appeal to anyone who would like to make a donation, or adopt a cat, to contact the branch.”
One pair of cats requiring a home together are KC and Jim Jim. They are both gentle, friendly and affectionate males. Jim Jim is four. They came to the organisation in March when their owner died. They are happy with adults and children.
