PUPILS from a Basingstoke secondary school have been warned about the danger of throwing crab apples after one hit a car.
The police received a report that Year 7 pupils from Aldworth Science College , in Western Way, South Ham, had been throwing pieces of the fruit at each other after school on Monday. One of the apples hit a car parked in Pinkerton Road and left a dent.
On Tuesday afternoon, PCSO Rose Hewson patrolled outside the school, and said she warned pupils of the potential dangers of throwing apples.
She told The Gazette : “There are cost implications if you do get caught doing it. More seriously, if someone gets an apple thrown at their car and they are shocked by it, they could drive into another car, and it would end up being more serious than throwing a silly apple.”
The apples had been picked from the lower branches of a tree outside St Peter’s Church, in Pinkerton Road.
PCSO Hewson said the police action in warning pupils was supported by Denis McCabe, headteacher of Aldworth Science College.
