A339 to close for improvement work
4:50pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in News By Gazette reporter
DRIVERS will be hit with weeks of disruption when the county council starts work on a main road in Basingstoke.
From October 8 contractors will start resurfacing a 1.5km strip of the A339 Ringway East, north of the Black Dam Roundabout through to the A33 slip road, as well as the slip road off Churchill Way to the A339.
The improvements are set to take up to two-weeks, and the roads will be shut overnight from 9pm to 6am. Diversions directing traffic clockwise around the Ringway from the Black Dam Roundabout will be put in place.
The county council will also install new bridge joints to strengthen the Daneshill North West and South West railway bridges, as well as the Eastrop Flyover. The work is part of Hampshire County Council ’s three-year Operation Resilience, aimed at strengthening the county’s roads. This year more than 250 sites covering 52-miles of roads have been earmarked for improvement.
Councillor Mel Kendal , Hampshire County Council’s executive member for environment and transport, said: “This is the latest stage in our long term strategy to future-proof Hampshire’s roads by making them more weather resistant and better able to cope with heavier traffic.
“We try to keep disruption to a minimum but if work is being carried out in your area, please be patient. I hope that people will soon being to notice further improvements across the county.”
