SMALL charities took part in a road-show with advice on how to beat the recession.
Organised by Foundation for Social Improvement (FSI), the event was held at the Ark Conference Centre in Aldermaston Road . It was aimed at charities with less than £1.5m turnover, which could attend for free over the two days.
Pauline Broomhead, FSI chief executive, said: “When we set out we wanted to ensure that small charities could thrive and continue to do the very important work they do supporting individuals, families, communities and causes across the country.”
Charity personnel attending took part in workshops about how to develop a fundraising strategy, get started with major donors, build a core case for support and manage volunteers.
FSI represents almost 2,000 small charities and was founded by entrepreneur Emma Harrison who recognised the importance of small charities and the fact that many did not have the resources to acquire the skills needed.
