THE family of a murdered teenager will face his accused killer in court on Monday.

Rhian and Andy Sebbage flew to Patrus in Greece for the trial of Stelios Morfis who is charged with murdering their 18-year-old son Robert on the island of Zante last July.

The teenager from Tadley was stabbed to death while on holiday with eight friends. Six of those friends will have to relive the horror when they give evidence at the trial, including four who were also stabbed.

The group travelled to Greece yesterday and will stay together on the mainland. Among the witnesses will be Aaron Thornton who administered first-aid to Robert, and heard his final words before he died.

Morfis, a taxi driver who was 21 at the time, will be jointly tried with Dimosthenes Mylonas, then 25, who is charged as an accomplice.

Rhian is preparing to give a victim impact statement at the trial, and told The Gazette : “I’m trying not to think about it. I keep thinking I won’t be able to do it but on the other hand I think this is the only chance I have to get it right. The problem is talking in English – will it lose the momentum when translated?”

Rhian will be joined by her husband and son Martin, but their other son Steven will not attend because he is starting a job in the army. The grieving mum added: “I’m feeling very sick. I have heard the details of what happened so many times before, but this is real now and it’s actually happening. It’s emotionally draining. The fact is we are going to a foreign court and won’t understand half of what’s going on.”

It is hoped that the trial will be over within a week. Rhian said that should Morfis be convicted, “he will never go through the pain we have gone through. I don’t know if him getting five or 25 years will make us feel better”.

She added: “His story is very weak. But there is still the worry that it’s in his country and he’s one of them and is that going to go against us? Some of the media published at the time it happened wasn’t favourable to our boys and stereotyped them and whether that will come through in court I don’t know. We will have to hope justice is done.”
