Volunteers needed to take part in London 2012 closing event

VOLUNTEERS from Basingstoke are needed to participate in a nationwide London 2012 closing event.

Bandstand Marathon will bring live music performances at bandstands and outdoor performance spaces in the UK all at the same time, to mark the end of the London 2012 Games.

On Sunday September 9, between 1pm and 5pm, bandstands will come alive with performances from bands, choirs and other entertainers at locations including Winchester, Southampton, Reading, Brighton and Woking.

But no one has yet signed up to hold an event in Basingstoke. Music of all types is welcomed including bands, groups, choirs and individual musicians, who will all perform simultaneously to create a closing event to the London 2012 Festival – created to celebrate the Games.

Ruth Mackenzie, director of London 2012 Festival, said: “Bandstand Marathon is encouraging local music groups to showcase their talents.”
