This footage shows how young thrill-seekers are car-surfing in a Basingstoke car park.

The footage is from CCTV cameras at Basingstoke Leisure Park and was shown to a judge at Winchester Crown Court.

Two 21-year-old men - Christopher Wannell and and Thomas King - each received six points on their driving licences for the stunts, plus a £150 fine. They were also ordered to pay £150 costs.

Wannell, of Wilmott Way, Winklebury, and King of Wrekin Close, Buckskin pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving.

oh my god! is it really worth risking ending up in hospital unconcious or breaking your back/legs/arms just to get a stupid 'thrill' (and I use the term loosely!) like that? some people just don't seem to have the brain capacity to think about how stupid things are before they do it, they probably just did it to look erm.... 'hard'! in front of their so called mates who happily let them do it while they were tucked up safe in the car! at 21 years old they really should know better. Idiots!

I don't know about "oh my God!" But as someone who does not believe in a god it does bolster my belief in Darwinism!

I do not think these idiots evolved through natural selection!
I hope this will encourage the installation of CCTV in other areas plagued by joy riders and the like.

If they were doing this off the road in a car park and not endangering or offending anyone but themselves ( and perhaps Mr. Plod) I would have thought Crown Court was disproportionate. Ok it was stupid but how many yachtsmen go out in weather endangering themselves and the rescue services, not to mention fell walkers, potholers, hang gliders, parascenders, superannuated drivers, to name a few. And as someone perhaps insinuated, obviously failed candidates for Darwin Awards inso far as they survived unscathed.

wtf. the sports you are talking about are legal and are insured. riding on a roof of a car is illegal and stupid. obviously your brain functions like those people in/on the car's

The amazing thing is..how they start the car..put it in drive..(mostly automatics)..and then..as they climb out of the window..flick the handbrake off with the foot. Mmmmmm surely if we can put up with so much cycling in the Olympics (boring)..maybe this could be a new addition in time for Rio..amen to that.

This is funny. What harm are they doing apart from to themselves possibly. Waste of court time and money.

They don't appear to be putting anyone else at risk but themselves. Who hasn't done daft things when they were young? It's part of life - unless you're a particularly dull person, I guess.

But what if an innocent bystander was hurt? Perhaps a member of your family? Worth thinking about..........

Just think if they had crashed and hurt them selves emergency services would of been called, OUR TAX MONEY, recovery vehicle called by the police, OUR TAX MONEY, repairs to any damage that they caused, OUR TAX MONEY. So well done to Hampshire Police for catching and dealing with these Idiots and they probably didnt have licence or insurance which means if they hit another persons car they wont be able to claim unless they have the appropriate legal cover!!!!

I agree with everything you say up to the point where you mention the probable lack of licences and insurance. They definitely had licences because 6 points were put on them (that will hit them in the pocket when they come to renew their insurance) and I am sure there would have been mention of further charges if they had not been insured.

Well the other answer would of been to take their cars off them and crush them because they will proberly go from doing stupid stunts like this to doing more dangerous things on the road.
