A FEW months ago, it was destined to be dry – a victim of drought water restrictions.

However, then the rain came, the hosepipe ban was lifted, and it was announced that the Eastrop Park paddling pool in Basingstoke would be filled and open in July and August.

And this week, with temperatures rising to up to 27 degrees, families made the most of the summer sunshine and the free amenity. The glorious weather has resulted in hundreds of schoolchildren heading to Eastrop Park in the first week of the school summer holidays.

A new office has also been installed next to the outdoor pool, with an attendant who will ensure the area is kept clear of glass and sharp objects, as well as checking the water level is constant and that the water is clean.

But his job might be noticeably quieter towards the end of this week because, sadly, the hot weather is not predicted to last. Brought about by the jet stream finally moving north, forecasts predict the latter part of this week will see more unsettled weather.
