Convicted burglar ends manhunt

A CONVICTED burglar who failed to turn up at court has handed himself in.

Richard Ashman, 25, of Poppy Field, Lychpit, was found guilty of conspiracy to burgle on Thursday, June 14, by a jury at Winchester Crown Court.

He did not attend the court to hear the verdict. A warrant was issued for his arrest and police made a public appeal to find him.

Vicky O’Hare, corporate communications officer at Hampshire Constabulary, said Ashman handed himself in at Winchester Crown Court this morning.

So what'll his punishment be? Will you keep us updated on this thread, dear paper?

20 hours community service with free lunch and drinks provided along with his bus fare there and back is probably what is going to happen.

Vicky O’Hare - didn't she used to work for Newsquest/The Gazette?

Hasn't the News International farce highlighted issues with the Police & Press being a bit to comfy?

Maybe you should all of attended the 4 week trial and listen to the facts before judging him! Also he did actual turn up to court Thursday morning, he left when the jury went down to make their decision!

Convicted burglar - nothing more to be said.

Other than don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

;)

What and have a massive jury? How would they fit in the court?

Bill1933 believe me there is enough room in the public gallery! You've got so much to say why dont you bother going to court and hearing the full story before judging people!!!

The facts are pretty simple:

"found guilty of conspiracy to burgle"

Simple as Quimbo (the name that stinks of bo, like the user)

I assume because he is not a judge and the person who had your pal convicted of his crime IS a judge.

If you don't like it, well, tough. Deal with it.

Ah! I get it now, I have to find out, by whatever means, that a trial is going to take place. Attend said trial, come to my own conclusion, before making a comment, or even reading about it!..........der, yeh fink so!

Hey, it's nothing personal; having his name tarnished is just part of the punishment. He has lost his liberty and his anonymity. That's the price.

That can be said for every criminal, no one forces them to commit crime. Thankfully, most people choose to live their lives as decent law abiding citizens. This thief chose not to, he pays the price, justice done!

I've just tried to read what CMillisom wrote. You need to take one hell of a deep breath. "He did the right thing and handed himself in" two failings here, 1 he should have stuck around and waited for the verdict. But I am sure thw wrong crowd told hin to leave. 2 Why didnt they just lock him up in the holding cells? After all he was found "guilty" is that not enough reason not to let him out so he can go and get his Greggs pasty?

HE HAS MADE HIMSELF A TARGET) he did the right thing and handed his self in now let him do his time there are at lot of people out there who have done worse thing (YES, BUT HOPEFULLY THEY HAVE RECEIVED LONGER SENTENCES) none of you cant tell me you have never done things you shouldnt (TRUE AGAIN, BUT SCRUMPING A FEW APPLES AND TYING A KIPPER TO NEXTDOOR'S CAR EXHAUST ARE HARDLY IN THE SAME LEAGUE. BUT EVEN IF SOME OF US HAVE DONE MORE SERIOUS STUFF, UNLIKE YOUR FRIEND, WE ARE EITHER TOO CLEVER TO GET CAUGHT OR WE HAVE LEARNT THE ERRORS OF OUR WAYS) of cos i know that would be a lie”
