Driver stuck in flood
6:04pm Tuesday 12th June 2012 in News By Chris Gregory
A WOMAN got stuck in a flooded lane in north Hampshire after following directions on her sat nav.
Firefighters were called by the stranded woman at 11.55am this morning after her car became trapped in a flooded ditch on a minor road at Chandler’s Green, near Hook.
The woman was driving to Hook from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, and had turned off the B3349 Reading Road, following directions on her sat nav.
Station Manager Ian Wadmore, from Basingstoke fire station, managed to locate the stranded woman by sounding his siren and directions from control operators.
He said: “Two firefighters trained in water rescue donned their water rescue protective kit and made their way to the lady. She was uninjured and was carried from her car and taken to a place of safety on a fire appliance.”
He added: “This is the fourth rescue of this kind that Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has made in the past two days. If in doubt, do not enter the water – either in a vehicle or on foot.
“I urge all drivers to use a common sense approach, especially when using a sat nav, and to seek an alternative route if a road is under water.”
