Water meter roll-out: Have your say
10:00am Monday 28th May 2012 in News By Gazette reporter
RESIDENTS in the Basingstoke area are being asked for their views on how a water metering programme is being rolled out.
South East Water has been seeking feedback from customers on the delivery of its metering programme.
The aim of the programme, which started in August 2011 in Basingstoke, is to have 90 per cent of customers on a meter by 2020. This is part of the company’s long-term plan to manage water supplies for the future as well as monitoring the effect it has on the environment.
Questionnaires cover all aspects of the service customers have received, from initial communication to the quality of instillation.
Charles Healey, metering manager at South East Water, said: “It’s important that we understand our customers’ experience of the metering programme so far.
“The questionnaires take just a few minutes to complete and can be returned using the pre-paid postage form we supply.
“We strive to give our customers the highest level of customer service possible but there is always room for improvement and so this feedback is vital to help us achieve that.”

@MadMc, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the meters are 'smart' i.e. can be read via a receiver passed over the cover so do not need to be visually read.
Many new meters for the uitility companies are now fitted with wireless transceivers. The most sophisticated allow readings to be taken automatically by a computer at a central location without the need for any feet on the ground. They can also allow instructions to be sent to the meter for fault fixing for instance.
