A GANG subjected a teenage couple to homophobic abuse in a computer game shop in Basingstoke.

The incident took place in the CEX store in Wote Street, at about 3.10pm on Sunday, February 12.

A group of four or five teenage boys shouted homophobic abuse at one of the couple, an 18-year-old man. He and his 17-year-old partner tried to leave the shop, but the group followed them and pushed the 17-year-old.

PC Aiden Blackwell said: “This was an isolated incident which occurred during a busy Sunday afternoon in the town centre.

“It is not acceptable for people to suffer this kind of abuse due to their sexuality and I would urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact me as soon as possible.”

The people in the gang are described as all male and aged between 18 and 25. Two members of the group were wearing hooded tops and two were wearing hats. All spoke with local accents.

Anyone with information can contact PC Blackwell at Basingstoke police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Stay classy, heterosexuals.

ALWAYS stay classy.

(Also, keep teaching your straight kids to be classy, too! Just look how wonderful the world you created is!!)

Without those 'classy' heterosexuals, there would - of course - be no homosexuals as they don't reproduce on their own.

It's such a pain when fact and reality get in the way of emotion and political correctness.

I don't think I'm 'homophobic'. A phobia is a fear of something. I don't fear homosexuals - I'm sure of that, so I can't be one.

Facts. Don't you just hate it when they get in the way of opinions?

As it happens I don't much care for the attitude of the teenagers who were abusive to these homosexuals. But for Billj4 to then openly whine about all heterosexuals, well, it's like 'oh shut up, please, you are no better than the offenders!'

Hmm oh yeah I see what you mean actually, however

You comment did come across as you hate homosexuals.

Not at all.

But I do dislike the politically correct types telling me what I should or should not think, or who believe they have more rights than others because they are 'different' in some way. It's a bore.

MediaVoice - claptrap as usual. Everyone is 'different' in some way and I don't think asking not to be abused, followed out of a shop and pushed is asking for more rights than 'normal' people. Most people would rightfully expect not to be treated in this way. Reading this article I can't see anywhere that they asked for free stuff or to go to the front of the queue, which if they had you may have had a point. I take no offence at the comment 'stay classy'. You obviously do, but then I can see why that might be the case!

I saw that a homosexual teenager had his jaw broken in Lancashire a few days ago. He probably thought that was unreasonable. What's the world coming to?

"All spoke with local accents." What's that then? Cockney? Estuarine? I haven't heard a local accent in Basingstoke for 25 years or more. You have to come out Kingsclere or Overton to hear "local accents"

Mr Overtonia.
Perhaps the gang is from Kingsclere or Overton

So, some chav kids were abusive. So what? I was walking out of the train station a few weeks ago and happened to experience some hooded chavs weedily engaged in a street performance, an MC rap attack. I was so impressed I approached them and said "That was wonderful - well done." The chav gentlemen were startled and they hurled abuse at me, which I politely returned. Has this incident been publicised? No, because it's regular ordinary everyday behaviour.

If you think people from Basingstoke (under 40) still have a London accent, you sir have no idea what a London accent is.

I often struggle to follow your logic MediaVoice but I keep trying. However this time you have completely lost me. How can bofb saying, 'Calm down all of you - it is wrong to targer ANYONE - due to their race, colour or creed' be interpreted in the way you have suggested?

I see the comment from MediaVoice, to which the above refers, has been removed. So now it is even harder to follow any logic.
