A FIRE broke out at a unit on an industrial estate while builders were repairing the roof.
Firefighters were called to Telford Road on the Houndmills Industrial Estate in Basingstoke at 11.20am this morning.
Workers in the surrounding units were evacuated from the buildings as 13 firefighters tackled the blaze.
Dave Williams, Basingstoke fire station watch manager, said: “There were some contractors working on the roof doing some repairs that involved hot torch work. Unfortunately that set fire to some internal cladding and we have had to strip it back.
Once it gets behind the cladding the only way to put it out is to rip the cladding away.”
