A TALENTED young dancer was remembered by her dance school at a show dedicated to her memory.

Helen Minter, who died of cancer on her 21st birthday in June, had been a pupil at Footsteps Dance School since she was 12 years old.

The school decided to dedicate their recent dance show Punch and Pizazz to Helen, and in doing so raised more than £250 for Cancer Research UK.

More than 100 Footsteps' students took part in the performance, staged at the Haymarket Theatre. Hoofers of all ages wowed the crowd with dances to music ranging from Latin to pop.

The show ended on an emotional note with Queen's Don't Stop Me Now, the song Helen chose for her funeral, being the soundtrack to the final dance.

Although the finale song had been decided on before Helen passed away, her parents and the teachers from Footsteps decided to keep the song as a final reminder of Helen.

Janine Sadler, principal of Footsteps Dance School, said: "The whole school knew Helen so it was very emotional."

Mrs Sadler added: "She carried on attending lessons as much as she could throughout her illness and was such a bubbly character who made everybody feel good despite her own problems. She really was an inspiration."
