A BASINGSTOKE hospice has potted hundreds of pounds thanks to a charity fundraiser in memory of a Popley mum.

The family of Lynda Hodge, who lived in Abbey Road and died of cancer in 1994 aged 44, organised a pool marathon at Rucstall Community Centre in Black Dam, to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in Aldermaston Road – where she was cared for.

A year after Lynda’s death, her daughter Lisa Kelly organised the first pool event, which raised £2,000 for charity.

But Mrs Kelly never got round to organising a second event until this year.

The 12-hour marathon took place between 12pm and midnight on Saturday and the pool table had to be occupied for every minute.

Following this year’s success, which raised around £500, the family want to make it an annual event.

Organiser Mrs Kelly, 37, of St Joseph’s Crescent, Chineham told the Gazette: “It’s taken us quite a while to get the second one organised but I am so glad we did.

“I am really grateful to everyone who has come along and supported as well as the people who have donated prizes for the raffle.

“It’s a great way to honour Mum’s memory and raise some money for the hospice as well.”

Participants were also treated to an evening of entertainment and a disco while youngsters enjoyed a bouncy castle and beat-the-goalie competition.
