A FOOTBALL fundraiser has generated more than £3,000 for charity.
Businesses from across the borough were invited to the five-a-side tournament at the Power League in Brighton Way, Brighton Hill.
Hosted by Basingstoke company Merit Recruitment, the teams taking part showed off their skills on the pitch and helped raise £3,386 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Maria Nunes, managing director at Merit, said: “Everyone had a fantastic day and the weather was perfect.
“The generosity of our community and employers never ceases to amaze and it’s thanks to this spirit that my wonderful team and I are able to continue to support a charity which truly makes a difference to the families who face cancer.”
For the first time in its history, a team from Merit (pictured) took top honours.
Abby Stevens, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Without the support of businesses like Merit we could not continue the vital work that we do.
“We are extremely grateful to Maria and everyone at Merit for all their hard work in raising such a fantastic sum of money.
“The raffle prizes were many, we sold out the tickets, and both players and supporters were extremely generous in their donations.
“Many thanks go to everyone who was involved in this event – we’re all looking forward to next year already.”
