A TRIAL recycling scheme will begin this month to collect waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has organised the fourth pilot scheme, to add to the 160 tonnes of electrical waste already collected through the last three trials.

Some changes have been made to the next collection following feedback from residents and the collection company, to make the system simpler.

Whereas before households included in the trial would receive a leaflet with a collection date, now any residents who would like their WEEE recycled will need to request for it to be collected, either through the council website or by calling 0800 731 6646.

They will then be given a collection date and instructions about where to leave their waste items.

Councillor Elaine Sill, Cabinet member for the Environment and Climate Change said: “The WEEE collections are a simple and convenient way to recycle all of the broken or unwanted electrical items residents have in their homes.

“It is really encouraging to see how many residents have got involved with the trial so far and I would encourage even more people to get on board to save these items from going to waste.”
