A BUS driver had to be cut free by firefighters after his vehicle ended up in a ditch in Tadley.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm this afternoon on the A340, between the junction with Fairlawn Road and Rowan Road.

Fire crews were called to cut free the driver of the bus, who spent more than two hours stuck in his cab in a ditch on the southbound side of the road.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene, landing in Glebe Close, but was not required. The driver was treated for minor injuries and it is thought nobody was injured in the crash, including the five passengers on board the Stagecoach bus.

Officers closed a section of the A340 for several hours following the smash.

Sergeant Pete Haywood, of the Farnborough Roads Policing Unit, said: “It appears a white van came down Tadley hill and slowed to turn left.

“We are not entirely sure what happened to the bus driver, but it appears the bus was travelling behind the van - there's been some sort of collision and he's gone across the road and into the ditch.”
