THE winner of the coveted Miss Basingstoke title will be decided on Sunday.

A dozen glamorous hopefuls will be chosen to take part in the final after a telephone poll is concluded tomorrow night. The 12 who receive the most votes out of 20 contenders will go before a panel of judges at The Red Lion Hotel in London Street, Basingstoke, on Sunday afternoon.

The winner will represent the town in the Miss England semi-finals, to be held later in the year.

Angie Beasley, director of Miss England, said: “We are looking for a winner who will stand out from the crowd, has lots of personality, inspires others and has confidence as well as beauty.”

The final 12 will be interviewed by judges including the current Miss England, Katrina Hodge.

Among the contestants is Jessica Jeyes, from Great Binfields Road in Lychpit, Basingstoke.

The 18-year-old, who is studying holistic beauty therapy at Basingstoke College of Technology, hopes to raise her profile so she can help charities.

She said: “I just like helping people. There are kids in hospital and it would be nice to get your hair and nails done when you are in hospital. I don’t have money to give to charity but I can help in other ways.”
