MOTORIST are being urged to avoid the eastbound A303 at Popham this evening after an accident.

At about 3.20pm an articulated lorry was blown off the road and into a field by a strong wind. No one was injured and the lorry remained upright with its load intact.

Police officers closed one lane of the eastbound carriageway between the on slip-road and Popham services while they attempted to recover the vehicle, but have now announced they will try again from 10am tomorrow.

They will shut the eastbound A303 between Bullington Cross and Basingstoke for an hour. Slip-roads at Norton, Micheldever and Popham will also be closed. The westbound carriageway will not be affected.
