Swine flu outbreak at Basingstoke college

TWO cases of swine flu have been confirmed at Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke.

The two male students, who are both teenagers, telephoned the college this morning to say they had been diagnosed with the virus by their respective doctors and had been given anti-viral medicines. Their symptoms are believed to be mild and each is being treated at home.

Ali Foss, Assistant Principal at the college, which is in Cliddesden Road said the college was staying open on the advice of the Health Protection Agency. All students with underlying health problems have been informed and advised to contact their doctors.

A 21-year-old girl was diagnosed with the illness in Basingstoke last month, in what is believed to have been the first case of the illness in the town. She was not a student at the college.

The college term is set to end on July 17.

Why is there no comment from the principal?
Come on Stephen Sheedy what have you got to say?
Why were schools still allowed to attend taster days when this was known about, and why were the staff not informed?

Why are you outraged? There is NO recommendation for school and colleges to close now that we are no longer trying to contain this virus! http://www.hpa.org.u

Check out the HPA website.
This virus is out there and spreading. We will all have it and most of us will make a full recovery without treatment. Your son is just as likely to catch it in Tesco's!!!
Media hype has a lot to answer for....

The principal was acting within the guidlines now recommended.
As the virus is no longer containable, there is no point shutting schools.
The only reason schools were shut and Tamiflu offered to everyone initially was because they were trying to contain the disease.
This is no longer possible so little point in shutting everything down with 2 cases.
You could catch this ANYWHERE now and you probably will eventually!
