DETECTIVES are growing increasingly concerned about the welfare of a man who is missing from mental health unit in Basingstoke.

David Wright, 42, has not been seen since he left Parklands Hospital on Monday morning.

The hospital had granted him leave for a few hours, but reported him missing at 1.30pm that day when he did not return.

Detective Inspector Mark Bramah, of the Offender Management Unit, said Mr Wright poses a threat to himself and to the public.

He added: "If he is seen, the advice is not to approach him, but to contact the police. Mr Wright is in need of specialist medical care, and it is in his best interests that he is returned to hospital."

Mr Wright has been without medication, which he needs on a daily and fortnightly basis, since Monday.

He is known to visit Popley and Oakridge, but police have so far been unable to find him.
