THE 120 little red men who vanished from a Chineham roundabout are clearly having a whale of a time.
Last month, we reported that the metallic men – part of an art installation on the Crockford Lane roundabout since 1999 – had been taken away for a respray after becoming weatherbeaten.
Now, two holiday postcards, showing the men on safari with a giraffe, and at the beach, have appeared on the roundabout.
The postcards said: “Wish you were here...be back soon”.
Jo Szegota, asset manager for MEPC Chineham Park, said the figures are being missed from the roundabout for which her employer – the managers of the business park – are responsible. However, at least the postcards are keeping people informed about their whereabouts.
She said: “The postcards just turned up at about 3pm one afternoon. The men certainly look like they are having a good time, topping up their tans, and I think we can expect more cards over the coming weeks. Who knows where they will appear next?
“We are expecting them back towards the end of July with a new lease of life.”
