TWO girls are wanted by the police in connection with an attempted robbery in which a teenager was grabbed by the throat and pushed to the floor.

The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was set upon by two girls while walking down a footpath to the rear of the Winklebury Centre, Winklebury, Basingstoke.

Just after 6pm on September 1, one of the girls asked if she could borrow the teenager's phone - and the other girl then grabbed her by the throat.

When the victim refused, the girl pushed her to the ground and ran off empty-handed.

Police have released CCTV images of the pair.

Pc Victoria Cobley, of Basingstoke police, said: "We believe that these two girls will be able to help us with our enquiries in this investigation and we would ask them to contact us."

She reminded people to be vigilant when walking with a mobile phone.

Anyone with information should contact Pc Cobley, at Basingstoke police station, on 0845 045 4545.
