PLANS for a big commercial complex that could generate heavy traffic may yet face further obstacles.
West Berkshire Council’s Western Area Planning Committee voted nine to one to approve the application by distribution giant ProLogis to build a UK headquarters for Austrian construction firm Doka at New Greenham Park, in Greenham Common, near Newbury.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has taken its concerns about the decision to the Government Office for the South East (GOSE).
GOSE has also written to West Berkshire Council saying it cannot grant planning permission for Doka’s headquarters until it has decided whether to refer the application to Hazel Blears, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
Nicky Linihan, head of planning and transport at the borough council, said: “The council feels that the application represents a non-comprehensive approach to the consideration of the site.
“These concerns have now been raised with the Government Office for the South East and are currently being assessed.”
The plans include 3,420 square metres of storage buildings and offices.
They were opposed by parish councils as well as Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. It is thought the development will result in around 40 heavy goods vehicle movements a day, eight of which will travel along the A339, between Basingstoke and Newbury.
Another application by ProLogis, to build a row of warehouses on the rest of the empty plot, will be decided at a public inquiry next month.

Think of all the jobs, (a dozen or so) and all the commercial tax to invest in foreign banks.
Don't worry about the environmental damage because it's better than what used to be on that site!
Only 40 HGV movements a day, no problem, until you add them to all the other movements previously accepted as just a minor inconvenience.
When will all this stop in this highly commercial area of the UK?
They're crying out for industry like this up North, and they have plenty of 'brown-field' sites just waiting. Plenty of unemployed too!
