BIGGER bins to boost recycling are being offered to residents in the Winklebury area of Basingstoke.
Households are being offered the chance to exchange their 140-litre green recycling bin for a larger 240-litre version, free of charge, as part of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Big Green Bin Exchange Programme.
When the programme was launched in January 2007, more than 300 borough residents requested a swap on the first day.
So far, the council has exchanged more than 2,000 of the smaller wheelie bins for larger ones.
Councillor Anne Court, the council’s Cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “Residents who have already exchanged their smaller 140-litre green bins for the larger 240-litre size say it has made a big difference to the amount that they are able to recycle.
“This stage of the campaign is focusing on Winklebury. However, any other resident in the borough who would like to exchange their bin is encouraged to call the council’s contact centre to organise a big-bin exchange.”
If you would like to swap your small green bin for a larger one, call the council on 01256 844844 or visit www.basingstoke.gov.uk
